St. Joseph Parish - Cyclone at 20120 Farm Road 485, off Highway 53, Cyclone, TX 76519-3109 US - Youth Ministry

Youth Ministry
Contact: Barbara Brenek

Youth Ministry, formerly the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) has long been active at St. Joseph's.  The organization provides Christian grown opportunities to young people through high school age.  Throughout the year, members enjoy a range of social activities and peer-led retreats.

Recent History

The last ten years of CYO have seen relatively few changes.  Although the sport competitions have taken a decline, we still actively participate in a wide variety of activities.  Every December, we travel to the homes of the elderly of our parish to fill their homes withte sound of Christmas carols.  Taking up a full Sunday afternoon, these outings are times of good eatin’, warm smiles and lasting friendships.

Another annual event we participate in is the Diocesan Catholic Youth Convention (DCYC).  The months before DCYC usually involve several fund raisers such as bake sales.  However, the work to raise money paid off when the convention rolled around.  Spending the weekend with hundreds of like-minded Catholic youth, listening to amazing talks, singing praise and worship songs, and making friends with youth all around the Diocese always make for happy memories.

Every other year, a larger convention – the Region Ten Convention – is held in Texas, where we find ourselves among thousands of Catholic youth from Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.  Much like DCYC, we have a special opportunity to not only hear from fantastic speakers but also grow together as a youth group.

At various other times throughout the year, individuals in CYO participated in and staffed at a large number of Diocesan retreats, including Search and Cross Training.  For those who attend, a deeper relationship with Christ and a more active faith life is sure to result.

CYO members regularly participate in Mass, fulfilling roles such as lecturing, singing in the choir, and serving as ushers.  In addition to all these things, we still find time to play – be it watching a video on chastity at our coordinator’s house, playing “42,” or simply hanging out together.
